My name is Kessen, and I am a seven year old, Golden Retriever/Labrador Retriever mix. I’m mostly Golden Retriever except that I am the only dog in my litter with short hair. I originally came from California when I was only ten weeks old and really didn’t know what to expect when I finally reached my new home. There were a lot of changes in my life…some good and some, not so good.
As a potential assistance dog, I was able to travel, meet new people, go to school, go to movies, attend church regularly, visit stores, offices and restaurants. Everything was a learning experience…even some of the disappointments. But, it all worked out in the end.
I now live happily with my mom, dad, my best friend Brightie and a potential assistance puppy named Izzy. She’s a beautiful black Labrador Retriever who is lots of fun and makes us laugh a lot. As part of our responsibilities in the Socialization Squad, Brightie and I consider mentoring puppies for possible assistance to be a most serious, but worthwhile assignment. Izzy is our challenge for the next twelve months, and we do so enjoy a challenge. However, my best experience was telling my story through my book, Kessen’s Kronikles, The Adventures of a Cross Country Canine. It spanned years of my life and shared my adventures, hopes, dreams, successes as well as disappointments. Telling my story taught me a lot about myself. It was a journey for me as well as for the reader.
In my free time, I enjoy fooling around with Brightie and Izzy, taking long walks in the neighborhood, playing in the backyard water bowl, going for car rides and eating special treats. Based upon the events and adventures in my life, dreams really do come true. Thank you for sharing my journey.
